Turning Ideas into Climate Impact

about.

The National Climate Change Competition is an annual initiative by Singapore’s National Climate Change Secretariat (NCCS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the National Youth Achievement Award Council (NYAA). The competition aims to raise public awareness about climate change by engaging individuals—primarily students—to submit creative works such as videos projects. Through this platform, the NCCS encourages youth-driven innovation and fosters a culture of environmental responsibility in Singapore.

Challenge: The microsite had to do more than deliver information — it needed to capture attention and inspire participation.

The project’s main challenge lay in transforming wordy and relatively dry content a common challenge for government-led educational initiatives) into an engaging, easy-to-navigate digital experience. The microsite needed to present large volumes of information —competition guidelines, resources, and submission details — while maintaining visual clarity and accessibility.

Beyond readability, the site also needed to house a future gallery feature, showcasing creative submissions across various categories without feeling cluttered or disconnected from the main experience.

To transform the content into a lively and engaging digital experience, I adopted a flat UI aesthetic — bright, clean, and approachable. It aimed to compliment the brand logo that was already developed by the agency.

Information was strategically grouped into modular sections, with sticky navigation tabs enabling quick access across pages. This created a natural, intuitive flow while keeping users oriented even as they scrolled through substantial content. To inject more life into the microsite, subtle icon animations and parallax scrolling effects were introduced—adding depth and motion without overwhelming audience.

The visual language borrowed cues from eco-friendly themes: geometric illustrations, warm tones and playful colour blocks that subtly echo sustainability. The layout was built to be fully responsive, ensuring smooth performance across mobile, tablet, and desktop devices — an essential consideration for the competition’s youth audience.

The final microsite reimagines a dense brief into a clear, cheerful, and mobile-ready experience. It balances information and inspiration—serving both as a functional competition platform and a visual call to action for young changemakers.
